Comments:

I went to nursing school after high school and upon graduation went to work in surgery at Mercy Hospital and basically have been in surgery ever since. My husband was in the Navy and then Coast Guard and I always found an operating room to work in. I raised 2 wonderful sons who have given me 4 grandchildren. I don't get to see them but we e-mail and keep in touch. I am a widow now and still working in surgery. I have worked with some of the finest surgeons and earned the respect of my peers. I helped develop some new procedures which was exciting. I relax by doing crafts. If I don't know how to do something I'll get a book and learn. My favorite past time is painting and I won an honorable mention in a national M.S. art contest for people with M.S. A national OR magazine did an article on my life and my art work. I have paintings all over the US. I moved to Ga. after my husband passed away and have been here since 2000. My life has never been dull. I do miss Altoona and try to get home when ever I can. My family still live there. In 2010 I remarried my first husband Robert Samms. I retired from nursing in 2014 and although I miss the work, I enjoy traveling and working around the house.

School Story:

My favorite memory of high school was the Friday night football games. Going with my friends Margie and Lorraine. I don't think we ever sat for long, It seemed like the thing to do was to walk around the field and them run to the fence when ever they made a play. My favorite teacher was Mrs. Harbaugh in microbiology. She was a dear woman and a wonderful teacher. She truly loved her students.

So sory to hear of Sandra's passing. Such a quite, sweet person she was. I remember going from grade school to high school  with her. What fun we had. I never knew her to say an unkind word about anything. She will  be missed, I am sure.

Ron was a great guy. We shared so many fun moments in home room through out our high school days. I am sorry for his passing. May his family know that they are in the prayers of many who knew him.

Sheldon was one of the nicest young man I had the privilege of knowing. We sat in homeroom throughout our schohol years. He would make me laugh and even though I was not one of the "in crowd" when he would pass me in the hall he would always speak. When I first saw his name on The Wall, I stood there and cried, because such a wonderful person had been taken from us. I was lucky my husband came home from that terrible war, but to Sheldon's family they didn't have that. We stayed a military family, and even though we were a different branch of the service, when ever special events honoring military personel took place, I always thought of Sheldon and the sacrfice he made.  He is a hero and I am proud to say I knew him.
