Charles N. Kogon

Graduated Penn State in 1970. Joined the Peace Corps and worked primarily in Jalalabad, Afghanistan teaching English as a second language. I have lived in the Los Angeles area since 1973. I went back to school in 1984 and received my Masters in Clinical Psychology. I have been in private practice along with my wife, who is also a Marriage, Family Therapist, for over 20 years. I have been married for 22 years and have two fantastic boys.

The Juniata Pavillion was a great place to meet up with your friends in the summer time. I remember hanging out with Butch Paterson and Jay Brett one summer day when this kid, Arthur Wallach, who used to be from Altoona showed up. Arthur was not known for his "coolness" when he lived in Altoona, but Arthur had moved to San Diego and it is amazing how cool one can think one is after spending a couple years in California. Arthur was no different as he drew a surfboard in the dirt and started showing a group of our girl friends including Leslie Edmonston and maybe Georgia Parsons how to surf. There he was riding the wave and "hanging ten" on his dirt surfboard. I remember Butch and I leaning up against someone's car watching this obnoxious spectacle with increased irritation. Finally Butch, who didn't say much, had enough. He walked over to Arthur, looked him in the eye and, to Arthur's shock and amazement, rubbed out that surfboard with his foot. Butch's parting words were, "We don't surf in Altoona!" Nothing more needed to be said. I've lived in California for over 35 years. I do not surf.
